A) Basic Sentence:

Occasion one:

S: Welcome, sir. Come in please.

G: OK.

S: Please take a seat.

G: Thank you.

S: Would you like a cup of tea?

G: Yes, thanks.

S: Do you want to have a massage?

G: Yes, I do.

S: This is a massage room. Come with me.

Occasion Two:

S: Can I help you?

G: Yes. Can you do the massage for my feet?

S: Certainly. Please put your legs into this Traditional Chinese Medicine.

G: Ok.

Step Three:

S: Take off your shoes and lie down please.

G: OK. What’s your name?

S: I am Lee.

G: Are you the student here or the masseur?

S: I am a masseur.

G: Where did you learn this massage therapy?

S: I have learnt Massage in Guangzhou School for the Blind for two years. And where are you from?

G: I am British. I am from Scotland.

S: Scotland is a beautiful place. If I have chance, I would love to visit your country.

G: Thank you. Welcome.

A) Basic sentence:

Step one: Asking the discomfort

1. 1) Where do you feel uncomfortable?

2) Where is the discomfort?

4.1) How long have you been in pain?

2) How long have you been feeling this pain?

5.Did the pain start slowly or did it happen suddenly?

9.Does the pain spread to anywhere else?

10. Does change with weather affect the pain?

11. Is the pain worse in cloudy and rainy days?

Notes:

1. Comfort: n. 舒服 反义词: discomfort

Comfortable: adj. 舒服的 反义词: uncomfortable

2. Symptoms: 症状 obvious symptoms明显的症状

1. spread : 扩散 eg. spread to stomach

2. anywhere: anywhere else 其它的地方 anyone else 其它的人

3. Problem: physical condition

6. Get a cold: 感冒 But “My back usually feels cold ” cold means 冷.

Note:

1. parts of body: neck 颈 back 背 lower back 腰部以下 upper arm 上臂 knee 膝盖 ankle 脚踝 lumbar vertebrae腰椎 .

B) Dialogue

Occasion One:

S: Lie down please. And where do you feel uncomfortable? G: Yeah, my neck is bothering me.

S: Please relax and don’t be nervous. How are you feeling now? G: Very good.

A: Please tell me if you feel I am too strong.

B: Sure, I will.

Occasion Two:

G: I have sprained my back muscles.

S: OK. Let me have a check. How did you hurt?

G: I hurt my back muscle when I carried something heavy.

S: I’m sorry to hear that. Now does it hurt hardly when I press here?

G: Yes, it hurts very much.

S: Don’t worry. Massaging can ease your present discomfort. Occasion Three:

S: Please tell me about your problem.

G: I twisted my leg a few days ago.

S: Did the pain start slowly or did it happen suddenly? G: It hurt suddenly.

S: Yes, your ankle is swollen.

G: Doctor, what should I look out for?

S: You can’t do the sports in the short time. This ointment will subdue the inflammation. How are you feeling now?

G: I am feeling much more comfortable.

S: Now please get down and see more about if the pain comes less.

Occasion Four:

S: Where is the discomfort?

G: I am aching all over.

S: You looked tired. Maybe you didn't have a good rest.

G: I have not been sleeping well recently so I always feel tired and have no strength.

S: After massaging, you will feel relaxed and will be easy to fall asleep.

G: That’s what I expected.

S: how are you feeling? Harder or tender?

G: Just be much tender please.

Occasion Five:

G: I get a lot of lower back pain.

S: Does it hurt when I press here?

G: Yes.

S: Have the pain thread to anywhere else?

G: I don’t know. But the areas around my waist have been hurting in the last few days.

S: Does your pain get worse when it’s wet and cloudy days? G: Yes. I feel painful but I can’t help.

S: How long have you been feeling this pain?

G: About half a year.

S: What kind of medical treatment have you received in the past?

G: I have taken some medicine to relieve the pain.

S: Don ’t worry. I have met several guests with this kind of problem. And massage therapy is effective to lower back pain. Note:

1. bother : trouble eg. What is bothering me? 你哪里不舒服?

3. present discomfort : current discomfort 目前的不适

4. Please tell me if you feel I am too strong. 这句话的另一种表达是:Its other way saying is “ Please let me know if I am hurting you. ”

Unit Three Treatment

Step one: Telling about some posture

A) Basic Sentence

1. 1) Lie flat on the table, please?

2) Like this?

2. 1) Lie flat on the bed, please.

3. 1) Lie down on your stomach/back.

2) Lie down on your right/left side, please.

4. 1) Turn over, please.

2) Turn over to your right/left, please.

3) Please turn over, facing up.

5. Please sit up.

6. 1) Please lay your head back.

2) Please lean your head back

3) Please bend your head forward.

7. Please bend your knees.

8. Loosen your muscles, please

9. Please lift your right leg.

10. Please unbuckle your belt.

11. Please take a deep breath. Just relax and don' t be nervous

12. Please lie on the bed so I can examine you.

13. Please bend forward and let me know if you feel pain.

14.Please get down and move around and see if the pain isn' t any better.

15. Please raise your shoulder as high as possible.

16. Please bend at the knees and relax your heels.

17. Please lie flat on your back, push your stomach up and tell me if your lower back hurt.

Notes:

1. Lie flat on the bed.平躺在床. flat 平的

2. Lie down on your stomach/back. 俯/ 仰卧

Lie down on your right/left side. 右/左侧位

3. Turn over, facing up. 翻身, 脸朝上。

4. Lean your head back. 向后仰头。

Bend your head forward. 低头。

5. Loosen : 放松

6. unbuckle: unbutton 解开

7. breath : 呼吸take a deep breath 深呼吸 breathe normally 不要屏气

8. get down:下来 move around 活动

9. as high as possible : 尽可能高 as … as 和 … 一样

10. push your stomach up 腹部上挺

11. e xamine : check 检查

12. h eel: 脚跟

B) Dialogue

Occasion One:

S: Lie flat on the bed, please.

G: Like this?

S: Yes. Close your eyes, please. Just relax yourself and don’t be nervous.

G: Wonderful. I feel tired and often have a headache.

S: Massage treatment will be helpful to get off your headache. Turn over, please.

G: OK. Are you pressing some points on my neck?

S: I am relaxing your neck. Do you feel any pressure when pressing the points?

G: Yes. It feels good.

S: Please sit up. And relax other parts.

Occasion Two:

S: Please unbuckle your belt. And lie down on your right side,

please.

G: Ok. Wait a moment.

S: Loosen your muscles, please. When I press here, does it hurt very much in the lower back?

G: yes, is it serious?

S: I am not sure. Now push up your stomach and tell me if your lower back hurt.

G: A little difficult to push up.

S: Oh, I am supposed the pain is spreading to the low part of the body on the right side.

G: What should I do now?

S: Your illness is a bit more difficult to be cured. You had better see a doctor and have a x-ay.

G: Thank you.

Occasion three:

S: Sir, have you been GuangZhou before?

G: Yes. Now I am working in Guangzhou.

G: I feel there is no strength in my upper arm.
