石墨烯: 新型的二维碳晶体结构1

摘 要:石墨烯即“单层石墨片”,是碳晶体家族中的一位新成员,具有独特的单原子层二维晶体结构,集多种优异特性于一身,如超高的载流子迁移率、电导率、热导率、透光性、强度等。自2004年发现至今,随着对其结构和性能研究的深入,石墨烯日趋显示出重要的学术价值和潜在的应用价值。本文从石墨烯的结构出发,阐述了其电学、光学等性能特点,重点综述了石墨烯制备方法的最新进展,对其发展趋势及对相关学科的促进作用进行了评述。

1引言
石墨烯是继碳纳米管之后被发现的又一新型碳纳米材料,它的出现使碳的晶体结构形成了包括富勒烯(如C60)、碳纳米管、石墨烯、石墨和金刚石在内的完整体系,最终建立了从零维到三维的碳范式。其实,石墨烯作为石墨和碳纳米管的基本结构单元在理论上已被研究长达60余年。而直到2004年,英国曼彻斯特大学的Andre K. Geim等人[1]才首先采用一种简单的机械剥离法从高定向热解石墨上将石墨烯成功分离出来,从此开辟了一个崭新的研究方向。 在短短的五年时间内,仅在Nature和Science上发表的与石墨烯相关的科研论文就达40余篇。
2石墨烯的结构
如图1a所示,石墨烯是由单层碳原子紧密排列构成的二维六边形点阵结构。图1b~1d分别显示了石墨烯的原子力显微(AFM)图像[2]、扫描隧道显微(STM)图像[3]和透射电子显微(TEM)图像[4]。

1本课题得到高等学校博士点基金(项目编号:[1**********]030, [1**********]019)的资助。
在石墨烯被成功分离之前,学术界普遍认为,任何二维晶体在一定温度下不会稳定存在。实验表明[5],石墨烯通过在表面形成褶皱或吸附其它分子来维持自身的稳定性。同单壁、双壁、薄壁碳纳米管之间的关系类似,除了严格意义上的石墨烯(单层)外,双层和少数层石墨层片在结构和性能上也都明显区别于块体石墨,在广义上也被归为石墨烯的范畴内。 3石墨烯的性能与应用
石墨烯独特的晶体结构使其具有优异的导电性。电子在石墨烯层片内传输时受到的干扰很小,不易发生散射,迁移率可达2x105 cm2/V·s[6],约为硅中电子迁移率的140倍。电导率达106 S/m[7],是室温下导电性最佳的材料。另外,电子在石墨烯中的传输还显示出半整数量子霍尔效应[8,9]和相对论粒子特性[10]。石墨烯是一种典型的半金属[11],其能隙与宽度成反比,可以通过控制其尺寸来实现对其能隙的控制。石墨烯已被尝试构建高性能的场效应管
[12-14]。大面积石墨烯薄膜的成功合成使其在电子信息领域的应用成为可能. 石墨烯的导电性可通过化学改性方法进行控制,并可同时获得各种基于石墨烯的衍生物。例如,在不破坏石墨烯六边形晶格结构的情况下,在每个碳原子上键合一个氢原子,即可将石墨烯转变为绝缘的石墨烷[15]。
单层石墨烯高度透明,仅吸收~2.3%的可见光[16]。因此可以根据薄层石墨烯的可见光透射率来估算其层数。根据折射和干涉原理,不同层数的石墨烯在光学显微镜下会显示出不同的对比度和颜色[1,17],为石墨烯层数的辨别提供了方便。石墨烯是透明导电薄膜的首选材料,可以取代氧化铟锡(ITO)、掺氟氧化锡(FTO)等传统薄膜材料[7,18]。石墨烯透明导电薄膜可作为染料敏化太阳能电池[19]和液晶设备[20]的窗口层电极。石墨烯经表面改性后不但可作为电子受体应用于有机光电器件中[21],还可用于超级电容器的电极材料[22]。
石墨烯还具有优异的力学和热学等性能。抗拉强度和弹性模量分别为125 GPa和1.1 TPa[23]。石墨烯是已知材料中强度和硬度最高的晶体结构,可作为一种典型的二维增强相[24],在复合材料领域具有潜在的应用价值。室温热导率约为5x103 W/m·K[25]。理论比表面积可达2630 m2/g[22]。
由于具有高比表面积,石墨烯还是一种优异的吸附材料。当表面气体分子吸附或脱附时,局部载流子浓度的变化会导致电阻发生阶跃变化。这一特性可用于制作气体传感器[26]。理论计算表明,石墨烯与锂可形成多孔复合结构,并显示出极强的氢气存储能力[27]。 3石墨烯的制备方法
石墨烯的制备方法主要分为三大类:1)剥离石墨法,即以石墨为起始原料,采用不同层片剥离技术获得石墨烯;2)直接生长法,通过引入碳源在一定条件下合成石墨烯;3)碳纳米管转换法,将碳纳米管的管壁沿轴向“切开”,展平后得到石墨烯。
3.1 剥离石墨法
机械剥离法:石墨层片之间以范德华力结合,简单施加外力(如胶带)即可从石墨上直接将石墨烯“撕拉”下来[1]。将石墨与另一固体表面摩擦也可分离出石墨烯[28]。此方法操作简单,但产量极低。
氧化还原法: 此方法的原理是先将石墨氧化,形成石墨氧化物,再进行一系列分离、分散和还原处理得到石墨烯[2,14,29]。此方法产量高,但在氧化还原过程中会引入官能团,产物的晶体结构也会遭到破坏,使缺陷增多,导电性变差。
液相剥离法: 此方法是剥离法中最有效的一种。将石墨或石墨层间化合物(可膨石墨)在具有匹配表面能的有机溶剂中进行超声剥离与分散[17,30,31],再将得到的悬浊液离心分离即可获得石墨烯。
其它剥离石墨法还包括静电沉积法[32]、淬火法[15]等。
3.2 直接生长法
外延生长法:此方法主要借鉴了早期薄层石墨的制备方法,利用金属-碳固溶体或碳化物中的过饱和碳沿晶体台阶析出在特定晶面上形成石墨烯。常用的晶体包括钌[33]、碳化硅
[34]、铱[35]、镍[7,36,37]、铜[38]等。通过与气相沉积技术相结合(如图2所示),外延生长法近期取得了重大的突破. 通过对渗碳、冷却等工艺的控制,可以在多晶镍膜上析出大面积、高质量的石墨烯薄膜. 薄膜可转移到其它衬底上,并能够保持原有的透光性和导电性。
等离子增强化学气相沉积法:通过在气相反应过程中引入等离子,可以在无催化剂的条件下裂解有机碳源(如乙醇)合成石墨烯[39]。

溶剂热法:有机溶剂(如乙醇)和碱金属(如钠)首先发生反应生成中间相(石墨烯先驱体),高温裂解后即可生成克量级的石墨烯[40]。此方法工艺简单,成本低,适于批量生产。 有机自组装法:这是一种自下而上的自组装合成方法[41]。首先将有机大分子(如C42H18,C96H30)离子化,经质谱仪纯化后再沉积到衬底上形成规则的石墨烯超分子结构。
电弧放电法:在氢气/氦气中对石墨电极进行大电流(>100A)、高电压(>50V)电弧放电,在反应室的内壁可收集到石墨烯产物[42]。
3.3 碳纳米管转换法
通过硫酸+高锰酸钾氧化处理[43]或等离子刻蚀处理[44]可以打断碳纳米管表面的成键,进而将其纵向“切开”形成石墨烯。此方法产率高,可批量获得尺寸可控、边缘整齐的石墨烯

表1列出了几种主要石墨烯制备方法在产率、晶化程度和单层石墨烯所占比例等方面的比较。

4石墨烯的发展趋势
石墨烯制备工艺上的突破极大地推动了后续相关应用研究,并对相关学科发展起到了极大的推动作用。
作为一维和二维纳米材料的代表者,石墨烯与碳纳米管在结构和性能上具有一定的互补性。在合成工艺、研究方法和潜在的应用等方面,二者之间也有诸多共性和相通之处。因此,未来的一个研究趋势就是借助碳纳米管现有的研究优势,将二者的研究整合在一起,彼此取长补短、相辅相承。

Abstract
Graphene, a single-layer graphite sheet, is a new member in the family of carbon crystals and has a unique two-dimensional crystalline structure with a lot of outstanding features such as high carrier mobility, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, light transmittance and strength, etc. Since its discovery in 2004, graphene has rapidly become a material of growing technological importance owing to the study of their unique structure and outstanding properties which prove its significant academic value and potential applications. Here, we give a brief review of recent progress in graphene field with an emphasis on the preparation methods. At last, the future development is discussed for the tendency of graphene.
