On the night of May 9, 2011, musician Gao Xiaosong ran his car into three other cars in Beijing. But it wasn’t just a car accident—he was drunk(喝醉的).

Now, Gao has to go to prison (监狱) for six months and pay a 4,000 yuan fine. Gao is the first star to be punished under China’s new drunk driving law.

From May 1 on, drunk drivers will pay a fine, and be banned from driving for five years or even forever.

Drunk driving has become a serious social problem in China.

According to the Ministry of Public Security (公安部), police caught more than half a million drunk drivers last year, a 68 % increase from 2009. The new law sees drunk driving as a crime. In the West, drunk driving is also a crime.

In the US, for example, if the police catch a drunk driver, the driver will pay a fine, lose his or her license (驾照) and even go to prison. If the driver wants to drive again, he or she must do public service, and take part in educational programs.

You may think: drunk driving is a crime? Isn’t this law too unkind? But experts say: not at all.

“It is to protect people’s rights to life and health,” Li Gang, lawyer in Chengdu, told China Daily. “Drunk driving is very dangerous. No matter what the results are, it should not be allowed.” ( )1. Mr. Gao ran his car into three other cars because _________.

I went back to my office with the rosy glow which comes from a sense of achievement.

My students kept diaries. However, as I read them, the rosy glow was gradually replaced by a strong sense of sadness. The first diary said, “Our literature teacher didn’t teach us anything today. ____5__ her next lecture will be better. Greatly surprised, I read diary after diary, each expressing a __6_____ theme(主题). “Didn’t I teach them anything? I described the entire philosophical(哲学的) framework of Western thought and laid the historical ___7___ for all the works we’ll study in class.” I complained. “How should they say I didn’t teach them anything?”

In our life, we don’t often expressed our gratitude(感激) to the one who’d lived those years with us. In fact, we don’t have to wait for anniversaries to thank the ones closet to us--- the ones so easily overlooked(忽视). If I have learned anything about giving thanks, it is time to give it now! While your feeling of appreciation is alive and sincere, act on it. Saying thanks is such an easy way to add to the world’s happiness.

Saying thanks not only brightens someone else’ world, it brightens yours. If you’re feeling unloved or unappreciated, try reaching out to others. It may be just the medicine you need,

B. the US B. Look out B. sure B. even B. Perhaps B. strong B. characters B. interesting B. However B. happy

D. Australia D. Stand up D. worried D. still D. Reasonably D. usual D. background D. unusual D. Though D. better

Of course, there are times when you can’t express gratitude immediately. In that case don’t let embarrassment sink you into silence--- speak up the first time you have the chance.

Once a young minister, Mark Brian, was sent to a remote parish of Kwakiutl Indians in British Columbia. The Indians, he had been told, did not have a word for thanking you. But the Brian soon found these people had exceptional generosity. Instead of saying thanks, it is their custom to return every favor with a favor of their own, and every kindness with an equal or superior kindness. They do their thanks.

I wonder if we had no words in our vocabulary for thanking you, would we do a better job of communicating our gratitude? Would we be more responsive, more sensitive, more caring? 1. What is the main idea of this passage? A Thanks for everything.

Most of us use alarm clocks to wake up at the right time for school or work. We look at our watches to know the right time for the bus or train. However, there is also a right time to eat, sleep, exercise, and take medicine, too. We can’t look at a clock for the right time for these activities. We must listen to the clock inside our bodies: the biological clock(生物钟)

Barbara Wells exercised every morning. She woke up at 6:00 am. She ran about two miles before she went to work. But Barbara’s legs and back(后背) started to hurt. She did some exercises before she ran. But her legs and back still hurt. She ran slower, but the pain didn’t stop. Barbara talked to her doctor. The doctor said,“Don’t run in the morning. Try to exercise later in the day. That is the time when your body is at the right temperature for exercises after work.” Her legs and back don’t hurt anymore.

Today, doctors are learning more about chronobiology (时间生物学),the study of biology clocks. They are learning about the importance of time for our bodies. For example, it is best for people to go to sleep at the same time every night and to eat only when they’re hungry. Also, doctors discovered that some illness, such as heart attacks(心脏病), occur(发生)most often in the morning. This information tells them that the best time to take heart medication may be at night. When patients take heart medicine at night, they may prevent a heart attack in the morning.

Many doctors believe chronobilogy can help us live healthier lives. It may be the right time to listen to these doctors!

1. Do we all have a biological clock inside our bodies?

.

2 How far did Barbara Wells run every morning ?

3. How did Barbara Wells' legs and back get well ?

4. What is the right time for a heart attack person to take heart medicine?
