How do successful people think? What drives them? Interviews and investigations indicate that there are several keys to success that successful people share.
First of all, successful people never blame someone or something outside of themselves for their failure to go ahead. They realize that their future lies in their own hands. They understand that they cannot control things in life, such as nature, the past and other people. But in the meantime, they are well aware that they can control their own thoughts and actions. They take responsibility for their life and regard this as one of the most empowering (给人以权力的) things they can do. Perhaps what most separate successful people from others is that they live life “on purpose” — they are doing what they believe they are put here to do. In their opinion, having a purpose in their life is the most important element that enables them to become fully functioning people. They hold that when they live their life on purpose, their main concern is to do the job right. They love what they do — and it shows. People want to do business with them because of their commitment (投入,献身). To live their life on purpose, successful people find a cause they believe in and create a business around it. Besides, they never easily give up. Once they have set up goals in their life, they are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. Top achievers always bear in mind that they don’t have forever. Rather than seeing it negative or depressing, they use the knowledge to spur themselves on and go after what they want energetically and passionately.

The case for college has been accepted without question for more than a generation.
All high school graduates ought to go, because college will help them earn more money, become “better” people, and learn to be more responsible citizens than those who don’t go.
But college has never been able to work its magic for everyone. And now that close to half our high school graduates are attending, those who don’t fit the pattern are becoming more and more, and more obvious. College graduates are selling shoes and driving taxis; college students get in the way of each other’s experiments and write false letters of recommendation in the competition for admission to graduate school. Others find no interest in their studies, and drop out —often encouraged by college administrators. Some observers say the fault is with the young people themselves—they are spoiled and they are expecting too much.
But that is a condemnation (谴责)of the students as a whole ,and does not explain all campus unhappiness. Others blame the state of the worl d, and they are partly right. We’ve been told that young people have to go to college because our economy cannot take in an army of untrained 18-year-olds .But disappointed graduates are learning that it can no longer take in an army of trained 22-year-olds, either. Some adventuresome educators and campus watchers have openly begun to suggest that college may not be the best, the proper, the only place for every young person after the completion of high school. We may have
been looking at all those surveys upside down ,it seems ,and thinking of the rosy glow of our own remembered college experiences. Perhaps college does not make people intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, or quick to learn things—maybe it is just the other way round, and intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, quick-learning people are only the ones who have been attracted to college in the first place .And perhaps all those successful college graduates would have been successful whether they had gone to college or not. This is heresy (异端邪说)to those of us who have been brought up to believe that if little schooling is good ,more has to be much better. But opposite evidence is beginning to mouth up.
68.According to the passage all of the following statements are true EXCEPT .
A .about half of the high school graduates continue their studies
at school
B .college graduates are believed to be able to earn more money
C .administrators often encourage college students to drop out
D .more and more young people are found unfit for college
69.According to some observers’ opinions, which one is right?
A .The students expect so much that they are not satisfied with
the hard college life.
B .The youth have to attend college because the economic situation
is so discouraging.
C .College should improve because of so much campus unhappiness.
D .Colleges provide more chances of good jobs than anywhere else.
70.It can be inferred from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 ?
A .Our college experience proves that those surveys are incorrect.
B .The surveys may remind us of our beautiful college experiences.
C .The surveys should all be re-examined according to our college
experiences.
D .Our college experiences may make us misunderstand the results
of the surveys.
71.The passage mainly tells us about .
A .To argue against the idea that college is the best place for
all young people.
B .To put forward an idea that college should not be the first
choice. C .To value young people’s further education in colleges. D .To persuade young people into working after the completing of
high school.
E People living on parts of the south coast of England face a serious problem. In 1993, the owners of a large hotel and of several houses discovered, to their horror, that their gardens had disappeared overnight. The sea had eaten into the soft limestone(石灰石) cliffs on which they had been built. While experts were studying the problem, the hotel and several houses disappeared altogether, sliding down the cliff and into the sea.
Erosion (侵蚀) of the white cliffs along the south coast of England has always been a problem but it has become more serious in recent years. Dozens of homes have had to be abandoned as the sea has crept farther and farther inland. Experts have studied the areas most affected and have drawn up a map for local people, forecasting the year in which their homes will be swallowed up by the hungry sea.
Angry owners have called on the Government to erect sea defenses to protect their homes. Government surveyors have pointed out that in most cases, this is impossible. New sea walls would cost hundreds of millions of pounds and would merely make the waves and currents go further along the coast, shifting the problem from one area to another. The danger is likely to continue, they say, until the waves reach an inland area of hard rock which will not be eaten as limestone is. Meanwhile, if you want to buy a cheap house with an uncertain future, apply to a house agent in one of the threatened areas on the south coast of England. You can get a house for a knockdown price but it may turn out to be a knockdown home.
72. What is the cause of the problem that people living on parts of the south coast of England face?
A. The disappearance of hotels, houses and gardens.
B. Flood and earthquake.
C. The rising of the sea level.
D. The washing-away of limestone cliffs.
73. The experts’ study on the problem of erosion can __
A. solve the problem eventually
B. provide an effective way to slow it down
C. help to prevent it from worsening
D. warn people whose homes are in danger
74. It is not feasible to build sea defenses to protect against erosion
because __ ____.
A. it is too costly and will endanger neighbouring areas
B. the government is too slow in taking action
C. they will be easily knocked down by waves and currents
D. house agents along the coast do not support the idea
75. According to the author, when buying a house along the south coast
of England, people should ____.
A. be aware of the potential danger involved
B. guard against being cheated by the house agent
C. take the quality of the house into consideration
D. examine the house carefully before making a decision

The 2008 Olympic Game has been the most cheerful event throughout Beijing ever since Beijing was rewarded the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, yet the focus should be shifted from making a promise to fulfilling the promise made.
In my point of view, to bridge the gap between the promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go.
To begin with,. traffic jam an age old headache in Beijing,, is the primary concern..The scene of long queues of vehicles worming their way inch by inch will surely cause great incontinence, and blemish the image of the city meanwhile.Beijing government has taken steps to broaden roads and improve the service of buses and subways with reducing the fee. Next, Time permitting, a redesign of city layout and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for any strangers Thirdly, quality of the population should be improved. To make an international metropolis, both “hardware” and “software” are important.
However, Rome was not built in a day. To carry out the promise of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”, deeds speak louder than words. w
e hope all Chineses join hands to make Beijing a big city to host the 2008 Olympics Games
